Hand-built in stoneware clay, Lucien is part of Sean Bishop's Collared Souls collection. The series explores identity, individuality and the subtle presence each person carries. Distinctive collars unite the collection while allowing every Soul to express its own unique character.

Each sculpture is individually hand-built using stoneware clay, coloured with slips, and finished with a clear glaze that is carefully wiped back to preserve the tactile qualities of the clay and the evidence of the maker's hand. No two Souls are ever the same.

Rather than portraying a specific individual, Lucien exists somewhere between portrait and imagination, inviting viewers to discover their own memories, emotions and interpretations within the work.
